At St Monica’s Primary School, we are proud to be a key provider of SEND support within the London Borough of Hackney. We are committed to inclusion and believe that every child should be supported to achieve their full potential.
Our SENCo and Assistant Headteacher, Caterina Rodrigues, leads our SEND provision and works closely with pupils, families, staff and external professionals to ensure that children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities receive appropriate, timely and effective support.
Our school has a team of experienced and dedicated staff who work closely with children with SEND to ensure they make strong academic, social and emotional progress. Support is carefully planned and reviewed to meet individual needs, remove barriers to learning and help children thrive both in and out of the classroom.
We also have a dedicated Learning Hub, which provides additional support for pupils who may benefit from targeted provision beyond the usual classroom environment. This includes targeted interventions, small-group work, specialist activities and personalised support designed to meet a wide range of needs while developing children's confidence, independence and readiness to learn.
Our SEND provision is closely linked to our whole-school approach to behaviour, relationships and emotional regulation. Through our The Good Morning Club (TGMC) approach, we recognise that some children may require additional support to regulate their emotions, develop positive relationships and engage successfully with learning. We use a combination of high expectations, appropriate adjustments, targeted support and individual strategies to help pupils succeed.
At St Monica’s, we place great importance on preparing children for the future. Our SEND provision supports pupils in developing communication, independence, resilience, self-regulation and key life skills, helping to ensure a smooth and successful transition into secondary school and beyond.
We work closely with families, other schools, the Local Authority and external professionals to provide consistent, high-quality support. Where appropriate, this may include working with educational psychologists, speech and language professionals, occupational therapists, health professionals and other specialist services.
Through strong partnerships, effective leadership and a nurturing and inclusive environment, we aim to ensure that every child feels valued, understood, supported and able to succeed.
