Computing

Computing statement of intent

To develop children's experience and understanding of ICT, preparing them for jobs of the future.

Our vision is to ensure that all pupils and staff are fully prepared for the future of digital technology, thus ensuring they are ready and able to embrace the technological advances of the future.

Computing is an important tool for teaching and learning across all other subject areas. We endeavour to help pupils see Computing as a natural tool for research, analysis and presentation. We aim for the children to confidently and independently use and apply information technology skills to support and extend their learning. We develop a culture where the use of ICT becomes second nature to our pupils.

E-safety is clearly very important. We run an annual Internet Safety Day for all our children, and have introduced e-safety workshops for parents.

The Computing component of the National Curriculum has undergone substantial recent changes. We have implemented these changes using the Switched on Computing scheme of work in our year planning, and have updated and bought in new resources including I-Pads and laptops following a computing audit. All staff have been trained in the new curriculum and in how to use our technology.

We use two different resources to teach coding, Espresso Coding and Scratch. We also use London Grid for Learning to allow pupils and staff to access resources in a safe way at school and at home.
