Welcome to Year 1 at St Monica’s Primary School!
Welcome to Year 1 — an exciting year where children take their first big steps into Key Stage 1! We’re so delighted to have you with us as we explore, create, and learn together through lots of fun and engaging activities.
In English, we’ll continue to develop our reading and writing skills through phonics, storytelling, and creative projects. We’ll enjoy discovering new books and sharing our ideas with each other. In Maths, we’ll build our confidence with numbers — learning to count, add, subtract, and solve simple problems in practical and playful ways. Science will be full of curiosity and discovery as we explore the world around us through hands-on investigations.
We’ll also have plenty of opportunities to get creative in Art, Music, and Design Technology, as well as explore exciting topics in History and Geography. PE lessons will help us stay active, healthy, and full of energy as we learn new skills and play together.
Year 1 is all about curiosity, confidence, and fun! We can’t wait to see how much our pupils will learn and grow during their first year in Key Stage 1 at St Monica’s.
