Science Statement of Intent

To develop children's scientific knowledge and understanding of the nature, processes and methods of science, for now and the future.

Here at St. Monica’s we want to encourage enquiring minds and develop our children's independent scientific thinking. We believe science should be hands-on and fun, and integrated with other areas of the curriculum to give a rounded view of the world we live in.

We use the programme Snap Science, which provides lesson plans, videos, activities and differentiated tasks for each session. It gives us a clear assessment framework to assess each child's understanding of each unit. The scheme is flexible enough to enable teachers to use their professional judgment and adapt it to suit their own classes. We have also conducted a resource audit to ensure that each class has the hands-on science resources that it needs.
